Nordica 20cm 1 Light Pendant Light - Matt Black & Beech With Black Shade

The Nordica is a 200mm single-pendant light combining a matt black metal frame, a curved beech wood handle and a cylindrical black mesh shade. The metal arched handle supports the shade from above in a lantern-like configuration, with the curved beech handle forming the top arc. A single E27 bulb sits inside the mesh shade (sold separately), diffusing light through the perforated metal while the open bottom allows direct downward illumination.

Designed for kitchen islands, breakfast bars, dining tables and bedside positions, the Nordica works where focused task light with decorative presence is needed. The 600-1500mm adjustable drop allows the pendant to be set 600-700mm above a worktop or 700-800mm above a dining surface depending on ceiling height. The black braided textile cable runs through the central suspension wire and connects to a standard UK ceiling rose. At 0.8kg the fitting is light enough for plasterboard ceilings without additional support.

The beech handle adds warmth to the otherwise monochrome palette, creating a visual break between the matt black canopy and the black mesh shade. The mesh allows the bulb and its filament (if using an LED filament style) to be partially visible, giving the pendant an industrial-meets-Scandinavian character. The matt black finish on the metal frame resists fingerprints and pairs with both warm wood tones and cooler greys in contemporary and mid-century interiors.

What bulb does the Nordica take?

The pendant takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to the wattage limit set by the fitting. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 6-10W LED filament bulb in warm white (2700K-3000K) to complement the visible mesh shade and create a warm glow.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, when fitted with a dimmable E27 bulb and paired with a compatible dimmer switch. The dimmer must match the bulb type (LED dimmers for LED bulbs, halogen dimmers for halogen bulbs).

What drop height works best for a kitchen island?

For a kitchen island or breakfast bar, position the bottom of the shade 600-700mm above the worktop surface. This typically requires a ceiling height of around 2.4m or higher. The cable is adjustable between 600mm and 1500mm during installation.

Can the beech handle be cleaned?

Wipe the beech handle with a dry or barely-damp soft cloth. Avoid soaking the wood or using chemical cleaners, as these can strip the natural finish. The matt black metal and mesh shade can be wiped with a standard duster or microfibre cloth.
