Description

The Niobe is a 72cm five-arm crystal chandelier in French gold, built around a central column topped with a crystal-studded sphere and five curved arms dressed with Asfour crystal strands. Each arm ends in an E14 candle bulb socket set above a crystal drip pan, with the crystals refracting light from all five bulbs through the metal framework. The French gold finish is a warm-toned, slightly antiqued brass that softens reflections compared to polished yellow gold.

Designed for dining rooms, entrance halls and living rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above, the Niobe provides decorative rather than task lighting. The adjustable drop of 450-1500mm allows the chandelier to be set at 700-900mm above a dining table depending on room height. The 720mm diameter suits rectangular tables up to 2m long and square or round tables up to 1.5m across. The chandelier fits a standard UK ceiling rose and the chain is adjustable during installation to shorten the drop if needed.

The Asfour crystals are Egyptian-made and machine-cut to a 30% lead oxide content, giving them greater light refraction than acrylic or glass alternatives. Each crystal strand catches and bends the candlelight from the five E14 bulbs, creating dispersed reflections across the ceiling and surrounding walls. The 4.8kg combined weight of the metal frame, crystals and chain requires secure fixing to a joist or ceiling hook rated to at least 10kg. The chandelier is dimmable when paired with dimmable E14 LED candle bulbs and a compatible trailing-edge dimmer.

The chandelier takes five E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for ambient dining room lighting.

Is the Niobe dimmable?

Yes, when paired with dimmable E14 LED bulbs and a compatible trailing-edge dimmer. The chandelier itself has no electronic components — dimming capability depends entirely on the bulbs and dimmer switch used.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 450-1500mm adjustable drop works best in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above. For a dining table the chandelier typically hangs 700-900mm above the surface, which requires at least 2.4m ceiling height with the chain shortened to minimum drop.

How is the crystal cleaned?

Switch off and allow bulbs to cool. Wipe each crystal strand gently with a dry microfibre cloth. For heavier dust, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water works, but avoid soaking the metal frame or using household sprays which can damage the French gold finish.
