Description

The Nicolls is a 750mm table lamp built around a mercury glass base with a hammered-texture finish that catches and reflects light across thousands of tiny faceted surfaces. A beige fine-grain linen drum shade sits on top, trimmed with silver piping at the top and bottom edges, and the lamp is capped with a brushed nickel finial that matches the base hardware. The mercury glass itself is clear with a silver-toned speckled coating on the interior, giving the base a soft metallic shimmer under ambient or direct light.

Designed for console tables, bedside stands and side tables in bedrooms, hallways and living rooms, the Nicolls provides ambient task light through the linen shade while the glass base adds a decorative accent. The 380mm shade diameter casts light across a 1-1.5m radius, making it suitable for reading positions next to a chair or as paired lamps either side of a bed. The lamp accepts a single E27 bulb up to 100W, allowing brightness to be tailored by bulb choice.

The mercury glass base stands approximately 500mm tall before the shade, with the full lamp height reaching 750mm including the finial. The glass vessel has a rounded body that tapers at the neck, giving it a classic urn proportion that works in both traditional and contemporary interiors. The beige linen shade softens the light output and complements warm neutral palettes, while the silver trim and brushed nickel finial tie the shade back to the metallic tones in the glass base.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Nicolls take?

The lamp takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 100W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED bulb (2700K-3000K) for bedside or ambient use, or a higher-output bulb for reading.

How tall is the lamp?

The full lamp height including the shade and finial is 750mm. The mercury glass base itself stands approximately 500mm before the shade is added. The shade diameter is 380mm.

Is the mercury glass fragile?

The base is made from blown glass with a mercury coating on the interior. It should be handled with care during installation and cleaning. The glass has a thicker wall than ornamental mercury glass but is still breakable if knocked or dropped.

What colour is the shade?

The shade is beige fine-grain linen with silver piping trim at the top and bottom edges. The beige tone is neutral and warm, closer to natural linen than grey or cream.
