Description
The Newbury is a 365mm three-light flush ceiling fitting with a hexagonal polished brass frame and clear beveled glass panels, rated IP44 for outdoor use. The fitting sits 190mm proud of the ceiling and houses three E14 bulbs (sold separately, 60W max per socket) inside a sealed lantern-style enclosure.
Designed for covered outdoor positions such as porch ceilings, veranda overhangs, and entrance canopies where ceiling height is limited, the Newbury provides ambient light through six beveled glass panels that refract the bulb light into soft patterns across adjacent walls. The IP44 rating protects the internal lamp holders from dust ingress and water spray, making the fitting suitable for year-round use in sheltered exterior positions.
The polished brass finish is lacquered to slow natural tarnishing outdoors, though some patina development over time is typical for brass exposed to coastal or high-humidity environments. The hexagonal frame measures 365mm across the widest diagonal and sits flush to the ceiling without requiring a ceiling rose to be visible, making it a practical solution for low ceilings where a pendant or semi-flush would intrude into headroom.
The beveled glass panels are set within individual brass frames that bolt together around a central lamp holder cluster, giving the fitting a traditional carriage-lamp aesthetic that pairs with Georgian, Victorian and Arts & Crafts architecture. The three-bulb configuration provides enough light output for a typical 2m x 2m porch or entrance area when paired with warm-white LED candle bulbs.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean and where can it be used?
IP44 provides protection from solid objects larger than 1mm and from water spray from any direction. It is suitable for covered outdoor positions such as porch ceilings and veranda overhangs, but not for fully exposed positions or areas subject to direct rainfall or hose-down cleaning.
What bulbs does it take?
The Newbury takes three E14 small Edison screw bulbs, commonly called candle bulbs, up to 60W each. Bulbs are not included. Most users pair it with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a traditional warm glow.
Will the brass tarnish outdoors?
The polished brass is lacquered to slow tarnishing, but some patina development over time is normal for brass exposed to outdoor conditions, particularly in coastal or high-humidity areas. The lacquer can be maintained with gentle cleaning using a soft dry cloth.
What ceiling height is needed?
The fitting projects 190mm from the ceiling. For a typical porch or entrance canopy with 2.1-2.4m ceiling height, this leaves adequate headroom. Measure from your ceiling to the lowest point you need clearance for (typically 2m minimum) to confirm suitability.
