Description

The Newbury is a 531mm outdoor wall lantern with a curved bevelled glass enclosure set in a lacquered polished brass frame. The lantern houses two E14 candle bulbs (sold separately) inside the glass chamber, visible through the clear bevelled panels. A hooped brass arm extends from a rectangular backplate, suspending the lantern body at approximately 254mm projection from the wall. The polished brass finish is lacquered to protect the metal from outdoor weathering.

Designed for external wall mounting on front porches, side entrances, garage doors and courtyard walls, the Newbury carries an IP44 rating for protection against solid objects over 1mm and water splashes from any direction. The curved glass panels measure 264mm at the widest point and taper to a brass crown at the top and a brass base at the bottom, creating a lantern silhouette that suits Georgian, colonial and traditional exterior architecture. The bevelled glass edges catch and refract light from the bulbs, producing soft patterns on surrounding brickwork when lit at night.

The brass frame comprises eight vertical ribs joining the top crown to the bottom base, with the bevelled glass panels set between each rib. Each panel is sealed with a rubber gasket to maintain the IP44 rating while allowing the glass to be accessed for cleaning or bulb replacement. The lacquer coating on the brass prevents tarnishing in rain and coastal air, maintaining the polished finish without regular polishing. The combined glass and brass construction gives the lantern a substantial presence on the wall without overwhelming typical UK residential door surrounds.
