Description
The Newbury is a 531mm outdoor wall lantern with a curved hexagonal cage of clear bevelled glass set into a lacquered aged copper frame, housing two E14 bulb fittings (bulbs sold separately). The lantern mounts on a scrolled arm that extends 254mm from the wall, suspending the glass enclosure away from the building face to cast light across doorways, covered porches and external hallways.
Designed for year-round outdoor use, the Newbury carries an IP44 rating protecting internal components from dust ingress and water splashes from any direction. This makes it suitable for sheltered positions such as under eaves, porch ceilings and covered entryway canopies where the fitting receives some overhead protection but remains exposed to wind-driven rain. The 264mm width and 531mm height give the lantern substantial presence on brick or rendered walls without overwhelming typical single or double doorways.
The aged copper finish is a factory-applied lacquer over solid metal that replicates the patina of weathered copper, giving a warm reddish-brown tone with darker lowlights in recessed details. Unlike bare copper which oxidises and develops a green verdigris over time, the lacquered finish maintains its initial appearance through seasonal temperature cycles and UV exposure. The bevelled glass panels refract and multiply light sources from the two candle-style bulbs, creating more perceived brightness than the raw wattage would suggest.
The scrolled arm and turned finial details reference American colonial and Georgian lantern designs, pairing with traditional red-brick, stone and timber-frame exteriors as well as more restrained classical revival and Federal-style architecture. The 2 x 60W maximum load allows filament-style LED candle bulbs at 4-6W each, delivering warm ambient light at 2200K-2700K without the maintenance cycle of true incandescent lamps.

Frequently Asked
Can this lantern be used in fully exposed positions?
The IP44 rating protects against water splashes from any direction, making the Newbury suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as under eaves, porch ceilings and covered entryways. For fully exposed positions with no overhead shelter, consider a fitting with IP65 or higher protection.
What bulbs does it take?
The Newbury takes two E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2200K-2700K for a traditional glow that suits the heritage styling.
Will the copper finish change colour over time?
The aged copper finish is a factory-applied lacquer that maintains its initial reddish-brown tone through outdoor exposure. It will not oxidise or develop the green verdigris patina that bare copper develops, and the lacquer protects the metal from tarnishing.
What wall fixings are needed?
The lantern weighs approximately 2-3kg and requires two fixing screws into a solid substrate. For brick or block walls, use M6-M8 wall plugs and screws. For timber or stud walls, ensure fixings penetrate into solid framing members rather than cladding alone.
