Description

The Neutrik NP2X is a 6.3mm (quarter-inch) mono jack plug with an all-metal housing and precision-machined contacts. The plug handles tip-sleeve (TS) connections for unbalanced mono audio signals, used across guitars, keyboards, instruments, amplifier inputs, and patch bays in both live and studio environments.

Designed for repeated plugging and unplugging, the NP2X uses a metal barrel construction that resists impact and cable stress better than moulded plastic alternatives. The internal strain relief clamps onto the cable jacket to prevent the solder joints from taking the mechanical load when cables are pulled or twisted during performance. The contacts are precision-machined to provide consistent grip on the socket sleeve, reducing intermittent crackle and signal dropout common with cheaper plugs.

The barrel fits cables with outer diameters up to 8mm and accepts a wide range of standard instrument and patch cables. The nickel-plated contacts resist corrosion and maintain low contact resistance over thousands of insertion cycles. The black plastic chuck provides cable entry protection and a comfortable grip for unplugging under stage or studio conditions where visibility is limited.

Frequently Asked

What cable diameter does it accept?

The NP2X accepts cables with an outer diameter up to 8mm. Most standard instrument cables (6-7mm OD) fit comfortably with room for the strain relief to clamp securely.

Is it suitable for balanced signals?

No. The NP2X is a two-conductor mono plug (tip and sleeve) for unbalanced signals. For balanced connections use a three-conductor TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) plug or an XLR connector.

Can it be soldered onto existing cables?

Yes. The NP2X is a solder-type connector requiring basic soldering skills. Strip the cable, solder the conductor to the tip terminal and the screen to the sleeve, then reassemble the barrel and strain relief chuck.

What makes it different from moulded plugs?

The all-metal construction and serviceable design mean the NP2X can be repaired if a solder joint fails, rather than replacing the entire cable. The precision contacts also maintain better grip and lower contact resistance than moulded plastic equivalents over time.
