Description

The Neutrik 3-pin XLR male chassis plug is a panel-mount connector with solder terminals and a 2-screw fixing system for permanent audio installations. The male plug configuration provides output connections on audio equipment panels, mixers, patch bays and permanent PA systems where cables with female XLR connectors will be plugged in.

Designed for installation into equipment racks, speaker cabinets, stage boxes and audio control panels, the chassis plug fits standard D-size XLR panel cutouts and sits flush against the mounting surface. The 2-screw fixing provides mechanical strain relief independent of the solder joints, reducing stress on the connections during cable insertion and removal. The three solder terminals accommodate pin 1 (ground/shield), pin 2 (hot/positive), and pin 3 (cold/negative) for balanced audio signals.

The metal shell provides screening and grounding continuity when mated with a standard XLR cable connector, maintaining signal integrity in professional audio environments. Neutrik manufactures this connector to withstand repeated mating cycles and the thermal stress of soldering without cracking the terminal housings or losing contact pressure on the pins. The body material resists impact and deformation during installation and use.

Frequently Asked

What panel cutout size does it require?

The connector fits a standard D-size XLR panel cutout, typically 24mm diameter. The 2-screw mounting holes are positioned on either side of the main cutout according to Neutrik's D-series spacing standard.

Is this the male or female connector?

This is the male chassis connector with three pins. It mates with female XLR cable connectors. On audio equipment, male chassis connectors are typically used for outputs, while female chassis connectors are used for inputs.

What wire gauge can the solder terminals accept?

The solder terminals accommodate standard audio cable conductors, typically 22-26 AWG. The terminal cup design allows for clean solder joints without excessive heat transfer to the plastic housing.

Is it suitable for outdoor or moisture-prone installations?

The connector is designed for professional audio use but is not rated IP-sealed. For outdoor or moisture-exposed installations, the panel cutout should be positioned to prevent water ingress, or a weatherproof enclosure should be used.
