Description

This hanging wooden plaque is cut in the shape of a little house, with a pitched roof, a bone cut through below the peak and a cheerful boast across the middle. The face is a soft light grey, and the words MY DOG IS CUTER THAN yours are lettered in white, the first part in neat serif capitals and the last word in a loose, handwritten script. Along the bottom edge walks a row of dogs illustrated in a gentle watercolour style: a scruffy terrier in a blue neckerchief, a small pale pup with a red collar, a sausage dog and a spotted Dalmatian striding out to the right. It measures 22.9cm by 15.6cm across the front and 1cm deep.

At that size it sits happily on a hook by the front door, above the lead and the dog bowl in a utility room, or on the wall beside a favourite basket, where it lets visitors know exactly who rules the house. The light grey is easy to live with and works against white, cream or painted walls without fighting other pictures nearby. We think it makes a lovely little gift for a pet lover, whether that is a friend who has just brought a puppy home or someone whose phone is mostly photographs of their dog.

The plaque is made of wood and is 1cm thick, so it has a proper edge to it and hangs neatly against the wall. A twisted cord in a natural string colour is fixed at either side of the roof, so all it needs is a single hook or nail. To keep it looking fresh, dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth. For a gift, wrap it in brown paper tied with string to match the cord, or tuck it in with a collar or a bag of treats for a present that is all about the dog.

It is made of wood, with a light grey face, white lettering and a row of watercolour-style illustrated dogs along the bottom edge.

We think so. It suits anyone who adores their dog, and it goes nicely with a collar, a lead or a bag of treats as a small present.
