Description

The Morfia is a 300mm mushroom-shaped alabaster table lamp cut from natural Spanish alabaster, with a domed cap sitting on a rounded stem-style base. A single G9 lamp holder with a natural brass fitting sits inside the body, casting light up through the alabaster cap and outwards through the lower base, so both halves of the lamp glow when switched on rather than only the shade.

At 300mm tall and 300mm wide, the Morfia suits bedside tables, console tables, sideboards and reading corners where a low, ambient pool of light is wanted rather than directional task lighting. The compact footprint means it sits comfortably alongside books, a clock or a small tray on a typical 400-500mm-deep nightstand. The G9 socket accepts standard small-base LED capsules up to the rated wattage.

Because the alabaster is hand-cut from a natural mineral, every Morfia shows different veining, tonal variation and translucency. The cap tends to read as a soft creamy white with faint warm streaks when unlit, and the base reveals deeper amber and grey veining when illuminated from within. The natural brass internal fitting picks up the warm tones in the stone and is visible only as a soft glow at the lamp's narrowest point.

What bulb does the Morfia take?

The lamp uses a single G9 capsule bulb, which is sold separately. A warm-white LED G9 around 2700K-3000K is the most common pairing, as it complements the natural cream and amber tones in the alabaster without making the stone read cool or grey.

Does the whole lamp light up, or only the cap?

Both. The G9 fitting sits inside the body of the lamp, so light passes through the alabaster cap and also glows through the rounded base. This produces a softer, more even ambient pool than a lamp where only the shade is illuminated.

Will every Morfia look the same as the one pictured?

No. Alabaster is a natural stone, and each piece is cut from a different section of mineral. Veining, colour depth and translucency vary between individual lamps. This variation is a feature of the material rather than a defect.

How should the alabaster be cleaned?

Alabaster is porous and softer than marble. Wipe with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. For more stubborn marks, use a barely-damp cloth with distilled water, but avoid soaking the stone and do not use household sprays, polishes or chemical cleaners.
