Description
The Merrill is a 388mm outdoor wall lantern with a black powder-coated metal frame enclosing four seeded glass panels around a single E27 bulb fitting. The lantern mounts on a decorative bracket with leaf-cut detail beneath the base, giving a 241mm projection from the wall. The IP44 rating protects the internal fitting and wiring against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for external walls exposed to UK weather.
Designed for front door entrances, porch walls, and covered outdoor areas such as verandas and patio overhangs, the Merrill provides functional illumination and acts as a visual marker for doorways after dark. The seeded glass texture diffuses light from the bulb inside, softening the output and reducing glare while casting textured patterns onto adjacent walls when lit. The black finish pairs with traditional brick, painted render, and timber cladding.
The lantern accepts any standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W (sold separately), allowing control over light colour temperature and brightness. Most installations pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to create an inviting entrance light. The seeded glass is thicker than standard clear glass, providing additional weather resistance and impact protection in exposed positions. The decorative bracket beneath the lantern base is cast as part of the mounting plate and adds visual weight to the fitting without requiring additional fixing points.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP44 protects the fitting against splashing water from any direction and prevents ingress of solid objects larger than 1mm. This makes the lantern suitable for external walls, covered porches and verandas, but it is not designed for fully exposed positions subject to high-pressure water jets or submersion.
What bulb does it take?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for entrance lighting.
Can it be fitted to a rendered wall?
Yes. The mounting plate fits standard UK outdoor wiring boxes and can be fixed to brick, block, render or timber cladding using appropriate wall plugs and screws. The 241mm projection means the lantern sits clear of the wall surface once installed.
Does the seeded glass need cleaning?
The textured surface collects dust and pollen more readily than smooth glass. Wipe the panels with a damp microfibre cloth every few months to maintain light output and appearance. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads that could scratch the seeded texture.
