Description

We built this Mercury battery tester for the moment you find a drawer full of loose cells and no idea which ones still have life in them. It measures batteries under load, so instead of guessing you get an honest reading of the charge that remains. The LCD display shows the power level in volts, which makes it easy to tell a fully charged cell from one that is nearly spent.

It handles most of the household batteries you are likely to own, including AA, AAA, C, D and 9V PP3 types, plus button cells (also called coin cells or watch batteries). That covers everything from remote controls and torches to smoke alarms and kitchen scales. The unit is compact and light at 47g, measuring 110 x 60 x 26mm, so it slips into a toolbox or a kitchen drawer without taking up much room.

Testing under load matters because a battery can appear healthy when idle yet fail as soon as it has to do any work. By putting the cell under a small load, this tester gives you a more reliable picture of real charge status. The reading is quick and the display is clear, so you can sort the good from the flat in a few seconds and stop throwing away cells that still have plenty left in them.

Frequently Asked

Which battery types can it test?

It tests AA, AAA, C, D and 9V PP3 batteries along with common button or coin cells, covering most household needs.

Does it need its own battery to work?

No. It draws the small amount of power it needs from the battery being tested, so there is nothing extra to buy or replace.

What does testing under load mean?

It puts the cell under a small load while measuring, giving a truer reading of remaining charge than testing an idle battery.

How do I read the result?

The LCD shows the battery power level in volts, so you can quickly see whether a cell is full, partly used or flat.

Can it test rechargeable batteries?

Yes, it reads the voltage of most standard rechargeable cells in the supported sizes, though their full voltage differs from disposables.

How big is it?

It measures 110 x 60 x 26mm and weighs 47g, so it stores easily in a drawer or toolbox.
