Description

The Mercury TST-C1 is a handheld test meter for checking continuity and wire or pin faults in network, telephone, USB and coaxial cables. It works both before and after installation, so you can confirm a cable is sound before running it or track down a problem once it is in place. The unit comes as a main module and a detachable remote, with the remote storing neatly inside the main unit when you are not using it.

To run a test, connect both ends of a cable to the matching RJ45 (UTP/STP), RJ11 or USB sockets on the two units. BNC leads connect to the plug on top of the main module and terminate using the included BNC remote jack. Pressing the single test button gives an audible beep and lights one of the front panel LEDs to show the connection status, including short circuit, open circuit, crossover and no connection. A battery status LED lets you know when the cell needs replacing.

The tester handles all common network types, so one device covers most of the cabling you are likely to meet. It runs on a single 9V PP3 battery (not supplied) and tests cables up to 180m (600ft) long. The body measures 143 x 86 x 26.5mm and weighs 202g, so it sits comfortably in the hand and packs down small. A carry case is included to keep both parts together and protected during transit and storage. The single-button operation and clear LED readout make it easy to pick up, whether you are installing a run for the first time or fault-finding on site.
