Description

The Mercury ST36B is a mains powered indoor TV aerial (US: antenna) with a built-in amplifier, made for picking up Digital Terrestrial TV along with DAB and FM radio. It works with signals within a 45 to 65 mile radius, so it suits homes that sit at a fair distance from the transmitter or that struggle with weaker reception. The high gain, low noise amplifier gives you 36dB of gain to help pull in a usable picture where a passive aerial might fall short.

You get two aerials in one unit. The adjustable loop handles UHF TV signals and both pans and tilts, so you can angle it for the best reception in your room. Two 728mm telescopic antennas cover VHF and FM radio, and you can extend and position these separately. A variable gain control knob on the unit lets you dial the amplification up or down by hand, and a power LED shows you when the aerial is running. An integrated LTE filter helps keep 4G and 5G mobile signals from interfering with your TV picture.

Power comes from 230Vac at 50Hz, or 12Vdc at 50mA, and the aerial draws only 50mA in use. It works across UHF (470 to 694MHz) and VHF (40 to 230MHz) frequencies with a 75 ohm impedance to match standard coax. The unit measures 195 x 144 x 230mm, weighs 500g and comes with a 1.2m lead. Because reception in any given spot depends on your location and how close you are to the transmitter, we'd suggest trying it in a few positions to find where the signal is strongest.

Frequently Asked

How far from the transmitter will this aerial work?

It's rated for signals within roughly a 45 to 65 mile radius. Actual reception depends on your location, local obstructions and transmitter strength, so results can vary.

Does it need mains power?

Yes, it's an amplified aerial. It runs from 230Vac at 50Hz, or from 12Vdc at 50mA, so the amplifier needs a power supply to work.

Can it pick up radio as well as TV?

Yes. The adjustable loop handles UHF TV signals, while the two 728mm telescopic antennas receive VHF and FM radio, including DAB.

What does the LTE filter do?

It helps block interference from 4G and 5G mobile signals, which can otherwise disrupt your TV reception in some areas.

Can I adjust the amplification?

Yes. A variable gain control knob on the unit lets you increase or reduce the gain by hand, up to 36dB, to suit your local signal.

How do I get the best reception?

Position the loop and telescopic antennas, then try a few spots in the room. Signal strength varies with location, so a little repositioning often helps.
