Description

This Mercury voltage test pen gives you a simple, safe way to check for the presence of AC voltage without touching any wires. Hold it within 1cm of a live source and it produces an audible beep and a flashing red light, so you know at a glance when a circuit is live. It works across switches, circuit breakers, cables, light fixtures, mains outlets and more, with a test range of 90 to 1000VAC.

One-button control keeps operation straightforward. A green status light confirms the pen is on and working, while the switchable LED torch (or flashlight, if you prefer the US term) lights up darker spaces such as consumer units and under-floor voids. When you finish, the pen powers off automatically after a period of inactivity, which helps preserve the batteries and means you are less likely to leave it running in your toolbox.

The pen measures 155 x 22 x 15mm and weighs just 25g without batteries, so it slips easily into a pocket or bag. It runs on 2x AAA batteries, which are supplied in the box, so you can start testing straight away. This is a handy tool for electricians, tradespeople and anyone doing DIY who wants a quick, non-contact check before working on a circuit. As with any tester, use it alongside safe working practices rather than as your only check.
