Description
The Mercury MED-04 is an easy-to-use metal detector suited to beginners and more practised treasure seekers alike. A large LCD display shows detection results by metal type, along with a low battery indicator, so you can read what you have found at a glance. The telescopic stem adjusts to suit your height and preference, and at 900g without batteries it stays comfortable to swing during longer sessions.
Three sensitivity modes and three audible tones help you tell iron, mid-range and silver apart. You can listen through the built-in speaker or plug headphones into the 3.5mm audio jack for quieter searching. Two operating modes give you flexibility: use motion operation to sweep for all metals, or switch to non-motion (pinpoint) operation to home in on a precise target before you dig. The 20cm search coil is waterproof, so wet grass and shallow water are no problem.
The coil detects metallic objects buried up to 18cm deep, which covers most coins, rings and everyday finds near the surface. Power comes from 6x AA batteries, which are not supplied, so it is worth having a set ready before your first outing. Fully extended, the detector reaches 121cm, and the adjustable stem collapses down for easier storage and transport. It is a straightforward choice for hobby detecting in parks, gardens, fields and along the shore.
