Description

The Mercury IMS1500-12 is a high efficiency power inverter that uses a modified sine wave to run 230V mains equipment from a 12V battery or DC power supply. It gives you a way to power everyday items such as TVs, lighting, fans and kettles when you are away from a mains supply. That makes it a sensible choice for camping, commercial vans and lorries, or as back-up power to convert charged batteries during a blackout.

Rated at 1500W with over 85% efficiency, it includes a soft start feature that reduces the chance of the inverter shutting down when you switch on large inductive loads. Protection is built in for low and over voltage input, short circuit, overload and overheating, and an LED with an audible fault indicator lets you know if something is wrong. A 2.1A USB socket is fitted for charging phones and other small devices alongside the main 230Vac output.

Each unit ships with two pairs of 800mm DC power cables and a spare blade fuse. Both 12V and 24V input versions are available, so check you have selected the correct one for your power source. For inductive loads, voltage sensitive devices or audio equipment we suggest a pure sine wave inverter instead, as these suit such devices better. To protect the inverter from current surge, keep your device well within the output rating and pick a model rated for at least three times the device's rated power.

Frequently Asked

What can I run from this inverter?

It suits everyday 230V appliances such as TVs, lighting, fans and kettles. Make sure the appliance draw stays well within the 1500W rating.

Does it work with a 24V battery?

This is the 12V input version. A separate 24V version is available, so choose the one that matches your power source.

What is a modified sine wave inverter?

It produces a stepped waveform that runs many mains appliances well. For inductive loads, voltage sensitive or audio equipment we recommend a pure sine wave inverter instead.

How much power headroom should I allow?

We recommend using an inverter rated for at least three times your device's rated power. This avoids damage to the inverter from any current surge on start-up.

What is included in the box?

You get two pairs of 800mm DC power cables and a spare blade fuse. A 2.1A USB socket is also built in for charging small devices.

What protection features does it have?

It has low and over voltage input protection, plus short circuit, overload and overheat protection, with an LED and audible fault indicator.
