Description

This IDC punch-down tool from Mercury is made for installing wires from computer, telecom and network cables into patch panels, telephone sockets, keystone faceplates and similar connectors, all without soldering. It uses a pressure-based mechanism to secure each wire into a compatible connector, breaking through the insulation to establish contact as it goes.

The spring-loaded blade trims excess wire automatically during the punch-down action, so you get a clean termination in one movement. Built into the tool are a pull-out hook and blade, which let you remove existing wires from connectors and trim or strip new wires as needed. That covers the small jobs that come up mid-install without reaching for a second tool.

It works with CAT3, CAT4, CAT5, CAT5e and CAT6 network cables (known as network leads or patch cables in some setups) as well as CW1308 telecom cabling. At 180 x 32 x 26mm and just 55g, it sits comfortably in the hand and slips into a tool bag or pocket. It suits professional installers and anyone wiring their own sockets and panels at home.
