Description

The Mercury heavy-duty in-line IEC C13 connector is a rewireable three-pin female socket designed for field termination of mains power cables. The connector accepts cable up to 8mm diameter and is rated at 10A 230V, making it suitable for standard computer equipment, AV gear, monitors and similar appliances drawing up to 2,300W.

Intended for professional AV installation, IT maintenance and equipment repair, the connector allows a damaged or cut C13 cable end to be replaced without discarding the entire cable. The moulded housing splits into two halves secured by screws, exposing three screw terminals for live, neutral and earth connections. Once the cable is stripped, terminated and the housing reassembled, the connector provides the same functionality as a factory-moulded C13 plug.

The connector complies with IEC 60320-1:2001 (2nd Edition) + A1:2007, the international standard governing appliance couplers for household and similar equipment. The robust plastic housing and metal contacts are designed to handle repeated connection and disconnection cycles without loosening or degrading. The 8mm cable entry accommodates both standard flexible mains cable and heavier-duty rubber or PVC sheathed cable used in commercial installations.

Frequently Asked

What cable size does it accept?

The connector accepts cable up to 8mm outer diameter. This covers most standard flexible mains cable rated 0.75mm² to 1.5mm² conductor size. Measure the cable sheath diameter before ordering to confirm fit.

Is it compatible with standard IEC C14 inlets?

Yes. The C13 connector mates with standard IEC C14 inlets found on the rear of computer power supplies, monitors, AV amplifiers, and other mains-powered equipment. It is not compatible with C7 or C5 inlets, which use different pin configurations.

What tools are needed for termination?

You will need a small flat-blade screwdriver to open the housing and secure the screw terminals, wire strippers to prepare the cable conductors, and a small cross-head screwdriver to close the housing halves. No crimping tools are required.

What is the maximum load?

The connector is rated 10A at 230V, giving a maximum load of 2,300W. For continuous operation above 8A, ensure the cable conductor size is adequate (typically 1.0mm² minimum) and check that connections are tight to avoid heat buildup.
