Description

The Mercury is a rewireable in-line IEC C14 socket connector rated at 10A 230V, designed to terminate mains cable up to 8mm diameter. The connector housing is moulded from high-impact thermoplastic with ribbed strain relief sections at both the cable entry and the socket aperture, reducing flex fatigue on the cable jacket and internal connections.

Used to create custom-length IEC mains leads for AV equipment, lighting rigs, stage power distribution and test benches, the connector allows field termination without specialist tools. The screw terminals inside accept stranded or solid conductors up to 2.5mm² cross-section, and the case closes with two captive screws that do not fall out during assembly. The connector complies with IEC 60320-1:2001(2nd Edition)+A1:2007.

The C14 socket mates with standard IEC C13 mains plugs found on most rack-mount equipment, PA amplifiers, mixers, monitors and professional lighting. The 10A rating suits equipment draws up to 2,300W on UK 230V mains. The black thermoplastic housing resists impact and abrasion better than standard moulded plugs, making it suitable for touring, installation and workshop environments where leads are regularly coiled, transported and reconnected.

Frequently Asked

What cable size does it accept?

The strain relief gland accepts cable up to 8mm outer diameter. Internally, the screw terminals suit conductors up to 2.5mm² cross-section, which corresponds to standard 3-core 1.5mm² or 2.5mm² mains cable.

What equipment uses C14 sockets?

C14 is the male socket found on most rack-mount audio equipment, PA amplifiers, mixers, stage lighting, monitors and professional power distribution units. This connector mates with the C13 plug on standard IEC kettle leads.

Is this suitable for outdoor use?

The connector carries no IP rating and is designed for indoor or temporary outdoor use under dry conditions. For permanent outdoor installation or wet environments, a connector with an IP rating is required.

Can it be reused if a cable needs replacing?

Yes. The connector is rewireable, so the captive screws can be loosened, the old cable removed and a new cable terminated without replacing the connector housing.
