Description

The Mercury COD-208A is a battery powered carbon monoxide alarm that keeps watch over your home and sounds a loud warning if it detects this poisonous gas. It uses an electromechanical sensor and has been tested in an approved UK laboratory to meet EN50291-1:2018 certification, so you can be confident it does the job it is built for. Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless, which is why an alarm like this is an essential piece of kit in any household with gas or solid fuel heating.

An LCD display on the front shows the current CO particle sampling count, so you can see the reading at a glance rather than waiting for an alert. Three LED status indicators keep you informed: green for power, amber for a fault and red for an active alarm. When CO is detected the unit gives an acoustic warning of 85dB at 3 metres. Because it runs on two supplied AA alkaline batteries, it stays functional during a power cut, and the latched battery compartment is designed so the alarm cannot be fitted without batteries in place.

The COD-208A has a working life of up to 10 years from the date of manufacture and operates across a temperature range of 0°C to 45°C. Detection times vary with the concentration present: it responds within 60 to 90 minutes at 27 to 55ppm, within 10 to 40 minutes at 110ppm, and within 3 minutes at 330ppm. We recommend fitting it in every room with a boiler, stove or open fire. This apparatus should be installed by a competent person and set up according to the manufacturer's instructions.
