Description

The Mercury 3-pin IEC in-line socket is a rewireable female IEC C13 connector rated at 250V AC and 6A maximum current, designed for assembling custom-length mains cables or replacing damaged connectors on existing leads. The socket body houses three brass terminals (live, neutral, earth) and includes a rubber cable protector that grips the outer sheath for strain relief.

Used in AV installations, server racks, stage lighting rigs and workshop environments where standard pre-made IEC leads are too short or too long, the in-line socket accepts cables up to 8mm outer diameter and pairs with any standard IEC C14 male inlet found on audio amplifiers, computer power supplies, monitors and professional lighting equipment. The cable protector secures the outer sheath before it enters the terminal chamber, reducing mechanical stress on the individual conductors.

The black moulded housing features vertical ribbing on the front face for grip when connecting and disconnecting under load, and the rear cable entry accepts most common 3-core mains cables including 0.75mm², 1.0mm² and 1.5mm² conductor sizes. The terminals use screw-down clamping rather than push-fit connections, allowing re-termination if the cable is cut back or replaced.

Frequently Asked

What cable size does it accept?

The rear cable entry and rubber protector accommodate cables up to 8mm outer diameter. This includes most standard 3-core mains cables with 0.75mm², 1.0mm² or 1.5mm² conductors.

Is it rated for high-current equipment?

The 6A rating suits most audio, video and computer equipment. For appliances drawing more than 6A (1,500W at 250V), a higher-rated connector is required.

Can the terminals be re-used if the cable is replaced?

Yes. The screw terminals can be loosened, the old cable removed, and a new cable terminated in the same connector provided the terminal screws and internal brass clamps remain in good condition.

Does it come with a cable?

No. The Mercury in-line socket is supplied as a bare connector for user termination. Cable is sold separately.
