Description

The Mercury is a 2.1mm male DC power plug with screw terminals that eliminate the need for soldering when wiring low-voltage DC connections. The plug accepts bare wire or ferrules into two colour-coded screw terminals (positive and negative), making it suitable for field installations where soldering irons are impractical or for users who have never soldered before. The plug body is rated at 5A maximum current and 24Vdc maximum voltage.

Designed for LED tape installations, CCTV camera power feeds, guitar effect pedal chains and other low-voltage DC systems, the Mercury pairs with standard 2.1mm DC barrel sockets found on most 12V and 24V power supplies, distribution boards and powered devices. The screw terminals accept wire gauges commonly used in these applications and can be re-terminated if wiring needs to be adjusted or repaired without cutting the cable.

The compact 39 x 14 x 13mm moulded body includes strain relief for the cable entry point, reducing the risk of wires pulling free under repeated handling. The plug weighs 6g and can be used with flexible twin-core cable from 0.5mm² to 1.5mm² depending on the current load. The green terminal block inside the black housing provides clear polarity marking to ensure correct positive and negative connections.

Frequently Asked

Do I need to solder the wires?

No. The Mercury uses screw terminals that clamp bare wire or ferrules directly. Strip approximately 5-6mm of insulation from each wire, insert into the correct terminal (observing polarity markings), and tighten the screw to secure.

What wire gauge can it accept?

The screw terminals accommodate flexible cable from approximately 0.5mm² to 1.5mm². For 5A loads at 12V or 24V over short cable runs, 0.75mm² or 1mm² twin-core flex is typical.

Is this plug compatible with standard DC sockets?

Yes. The 2.1mm barrel plug fits any standard 2.1mm female DC socket, which is the most common size for 12V and 24V power supplies, LED drivers, and CCTV equipment.

Can the plug be reused if I need to change the wiring?

Yes. Loosen the terminal screws, remove the old wire, and insert new wire. The terminals can be re-used multiple times without damage to the plug body.
