Description
The Hinkley Masthead is a single-bulb wall light with a cylindrical clear glass cage held within a polished chrome frame, mounted on a black circular backplate. The glass cage sits vertically, exposing the E27 filament bulb inside (sold separately) while the chrome bars provide structural framing and a reflective accent against the matt black base. The IP44 rating allows the fitting to be used in bathroom zones 2 and 3, where it may be exposed to splashes but not direct water jets.
Designed for bathrooms, hallways and utility spaces needing both task and decorative light, the Masthead works mounted either side of a mirror, flanking a doorway, or as a single accent on a feature wall. The 351mm height and 122mm width give the fitting enough presence to register as a design element on its own without overwhelming a typical bathroom wall. The 128mm projection from the wall means the fitting sits clear of a mirror surface when mounted 150-200mm to the side.
The polished chrome finish on the cage frame reflects light and pairs with chrome taps, towel rails and shower fittings commonly found in bathroom schemes. The matt black backplate and base cap provide contrast and prevent the fitting from appearing too reflective in a small space. The open glass cage allows the full filament bulb shape to be visible, so pairing the Masthead with a vintage-style Edison squirrel-cage or linear LED filament bulb adds decorative detail. Maximum bulb wattage is 40W on the E27 fitting.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The Masthead takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 4-6W LED filament bulb in warm white (2700K-3000K) to complement the industrial-nautical style of the fitting.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
Yes. The IP44 rating makes it suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3, where it may be exposed to occasional splashes but not direct water jets. It is not rated for use directly above a bath or in a shower enclosure (zone 1).
How far does it project from the wall?
The fitting projects 128mm from the wall once mounted. When fitting either side of a mirror, allow at least 150-200mm horizontal clearance from the mirror edge to avoid the fitting overlapping the glass.
Is the chrome finish lacquered?
Hinkley polished chrome finishes are typically lacquered to resist tarnishing in humid bathroom environments. Clean with a soft dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or metal polishes that may damage the lacquer.
