The Marlgrove medium table lamp pairs a 400mm Tiffany-style shade with a turned metal base, standing 530mm tall in total. The shade is made from cut pieces of multicoloured glass leaded into a frame, and it is deep enough to keep the bulb well out of sight from a seated position. One E27 GLS bulb up to 60W sits inside, bought separately. At 3.1kg it has real weight on a side table, which is part of why this style of lamp feels settled rather than lightweight.

We find a lamp this size does its best work as the warm light in a living room, on a console in a hallway, or on a chest of drawers in a bedroom. Sat on a side table beside a sofa, the shade puts light at reading height and spills colour onto the wall behind. It suits period houses, cottages and traditional rooms, and it works as the single decorative piece in a plainer scheme.
