The Marlgrove medium semi-flush is a three light ceiling fitting for rooms without the height for a hanging pendant. The Tiffany-style shade is 400mm across, built from cut pieces of multicoloured glass leaded into a metal frame, and it sits close to the ceiling on a short stem with a total projection of 315mm. Three E27 GLS bulbs up to 60W each give it plenty of output for a main light. It weighs 2.3kg and bulbs are supplied separately so you can pick the colour of light.

We find semi-flush fittings earn their place in bedrooms, hallways, landings and older houses where beams or low ceilings rule out a long drop. At 315mm deep it clears head height in a corridor while still reading as a proper light rather than a plain flush plate. The three lamps mean it can light a bedroom or a small dining room on its own, and it is dimmable, so you can take it down low at night. It suits cottages, period homes and any room where you want warmth and pattern overhead.

Each shade is assembled by hand from individual pieces of glass, leaded and fitted to the frame, which is why the pattern varies a little between fittings. The metalwork is finished in a warm tone that sits quietly behind the colour. Keep it dusted with a dry soft cloth and use a barely damp cloth for marks, avoiding sprays and solvents near the leaded seams.
