Description

The Marlgrove large flush ceiling light carries a 500mm shade of Tiffany-style leaded glass with a projection of 220mm, which makes it the widest and deepest of our flush fittings in this style. The multicoloured glass is cut piece by piece and joined with soldered seams over a metal frame, and the extra depth of the dome lets the pattern curve away properly instead of sitting flat. Two lamp holders behind the glass each take an E27 GLS bulb of up to 60W, supplied separately. It weighs 3.2kg and dims with dimmable bulbs on a compatible dimmer.

At 500mm across this needs a room with some floor area under it: a sitting room, a dining room, a large bedroom or a wide hallway rather than a small landing. It still hangs flush rather than semi-flush, so nothing drops into head height, which is why a fitting this size works in older houses with lower ceilings where a chandelier would be impossible. The pattern reads traditional against plasterwork and picture rails, and it gives a plain painted ceiling a proper focal point. Rated IP20, it is for dry indoor rooms.

The shade is soldered leaded glass on a metal gallery, wired as a Class 1 earthed fitting, so a qualified electrician should install it and check the ceiling fixing.
