Description

The Mansion is a hand-crafted solid brass outdoor wall lantern housing two E27 bulbs behind clear glass panels, finished in aged brass with a protective lacquer coat. The lantern body is built in a tapered hexagonal form with pierced decorative vents along the domed roof and upper tier, a design drawn from pre-Georgian British architectural lanterns.

Designed for front doors, covered porches, courtyard walls and pillared entrances, the two-bulb configuration provides more light output than single-bulb lanterns, making it suitable for larger doorways or areas needing stronger illumination after dark. The IP44 rating allows the lantern to be installed in locations exposed to rain and dust, though a covered or recessed position extends the life of the finish. The clear glass panels allow the full filament glow of decorative Edison-style bulbs to be visible, or can be paired with standard LED bulbs for functional light.

The aged brass finish develops naturally over time when exposed to weather, deepening the patina and emphasising the hand-crafted character of the solid brass construction. The lacquer layer slows this process but does not prevent it entirely, so the lantern will continue to gain depth and variation in tone through outdoor use. The fixture mounts to a standard UK exterior wall box with a rear plate concealed by the lantern body once fitted.

What bulbs does it take?

The lantern takes two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, sold separately. Most installations pair this with two warm-white LED filament bulbs rated at 6-8W each and 2200K-2700K for a traditional lantern appearance.

Can it be used in fully exposed locations?

The IP44 rating allows installation in locations exposed to rain and dust, but the aged brass finish will weather faster in fully exposed positions. A covered porch, recessed doorway or pillar-mounted position extends the life of the lacquer coat and slows patina development.

Does the aged brass finish change over time?

Yes. The solid brass develops a natural patina when exposed to weather, deepening in tone and gaining variation across the surface. The lacquer coat slows this process but does not stop it entirely. This is a characteristic of solid brass outdoor fittings, not a defect.

What height should it be mounted at?

Typical mounting height for a doorway lantern is 1.6-1.8m from ground level, positioning the lantern at or slightly above eye level. On taller walls or pillars the lantern can be mounted higher, with spacing between multiple lanterns of approximately 2-3m for balanced light distribution.
