Description
The Mambrui is a round glass decorative bowl in a smoky grey tint, raised on a short, flared foot. Fine ribs run down the outside of the bowl and the foot, and inside they fan out from a smooth, flat centre towards the rim, which is finished with a small beaded edge. It measures 30cm across and stands 12.5cm tall, a generous size for a dining table or a sideboard that never crowds the surface. The tint keeps the contents visible, softened by the grey, and the ribbing plays with the light as you move around the room.
Fill it with fruit and it becomes the centrepiece of a kitchen or dining table, the raised foot lifting the contents clear of the surface and giving the bowl a little height among plates and jugs. It works just as well empty on a console table, a coffee table or a deep windowsill, or as a catch-all for keys and post in a hallway. The neutral grey sits comfortably with pale oak, white walls, black metal and warm brass, which makes it an easy gift when you are unsure of someone's taste. It is made for indoor use, from the kitchen to the living room.
The bowl is made of glass and weighs 1.48KG, so it feels solid in the hand and stays steady when you reach for an apple. Glass is non-porous, so it does not soak up juice or keep the smell of ripe fruit. Best of all, it is dishwasher-proof: after a week of oranges and grapes, it goes into the dishwasher and comes out ready for the table again. The fine ribs can hold a few water droplets after a wash, so a quick wipe with a dry tea towel leaves the glass clear and sparkling.
