The head here is a simple ball, small enough to sit quietly on the track and free to turn and tilt so the light lands where you want it. A 7W integrated LED does the work, tuned to a warm 3000K that flatters wood and brick rather than flattening them. The beam is narrow, picking out one thing at a time instead of washing a whole room. Triac dimming is supported, so the level can come down for the evening. We reach for this one where a row of small, aimable lights beats a single ceiling fitting.

It earns its place over kitchen worktops and islands, along a hallway of pictures, above open shelving, or in a shop or studio where stock and work need to be seen properly. Because the heads slide along the track, the lighting can be rearranged when the furniture moves or a new painting goes up, which makes it a sensible choice for anyone still deciding how a room will be used. High colour rendering keeps paint, fabric and food looking like themselves. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a bathroom or a covered porch asks for something sealed.

The body is finished in matt black throughout, head and stem alike, so a line of them reads as one quiet run rather than a series of objects. The driver is built in. For cleaning, switch off at the wall, let it cool, then run a dry cloth over the ball and stem; nothing wet and no solvents near the lens. It carries a three year warranty. How much light does it give out?

It produces 560 lumens from its 7W LED, at 3000K warm white, with a 38 degree beam that keeps the light focused rather than spread.

Do I need anything extra to dim it?

Yes. It dims on a triac dimmer, which is not supplied. The Magneto triac and push switch dimmable controller in this range handles the job, one per system.

Can the LED be changed later?

No, the LED is integral to the head. It is rated at an average life of 30,000 hours, so it should run for many years before replacement of the fitting is worth considering.

What size is the head?

The ball measures 55mm across and the fitting stands 105mm tall, weighing 0.28kg, so it stays visually light on a track run.

Which track does it run on?

It is made for the Magneto 36V track system, so it works with the shallow, deep and recessed Magneto tracks we stock in black.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry rooms such as kitchens, living rooms, hallways and retail spaces.
