Description

A compact spotlight head for the Magneto track system, finished in gold with black where the body meets the head. The barrel measures 43mm across, small for what it gives out, and the integrated LED draws 7W at a warm 3000K, a soft yellow-white that sits well against wood, brass and warm plaster. It dims on a triac controller, so the light can be pulled back to a low glow in the evening. The dimmer itself is bought separately.

We reach for narrow heads like this where light needs placing rather than spreading: over a run of worktop, along a shelf of books, or aimed at a picture above a chimney breast. Kitchens and open-plan living rooms suit it, as do studies and hallways, where several heads on one track can each be angled at a different job. Because the beam is tight, it does its best work as accent light beside a softer ceiling fitting rather than as the only source in the room. Keep it to dry indoor spaces; it has no weather protection, so no bathroom zones and no open porches.

The head swivels on the body so the aim can be reset as furniture moves, and the driver is contained within the fitting. Cleaning asks very little: kill the power, give the LED a few minutes to lose its heat, then run a dry cloth over the gold to lift dust, keeping polishes and aerosol sprays well away from it. It carries a three year warranty. Everything else in the Magneto range is finished in black to go with the black detail here, including surface and recessed track, end caps, L-joints for corners and wall-to-wall runs, and the triac dimming controller this head needs if you want it to dim. The LED is built in, so there is no lamp to buy for it.
