Description

This is the diffused head in the Magneto track range: a 600mm bar of soft continuous light rather than a beam aimed at a single point. The integral LED sits behind a lens that spreads it evenly, so the fitting reads as a clean line of warm white along the track instead of a row of bright dots. The profile is slim and low, keeping the eye on the light rather than the hardware, and the 16W output can be taken down with a triac dimmer.

We reach for a linear head like this where a run of spotlights would look too busy: over a kitchen island, along a stretch of worktop, above a workbench or a desk, or down a hallway that wants an even wash rather than pools of light. It sits happily alongside spots on the same track, carrying the general light while they pick out the work surface or a picture. A triac and push dimmable controller is offered in the range if you want the whole system dimmed together, since no dimmer comes with the light itself.

The body is finished in black, so it reads as part of a black track rather than an object hung on it. Dust settles on the lens more than anywhere else, so a dry cloth run along it now and again keeps the light looking clean; leave sprays and cleaning fluids well away. The driver is inside, so nothing extra needs finding room for, and the light source is fixed in place rather than a lamp you swap. It carries a three year warranty.
