Description

The MAGfire RHD2 is a conventional rate-of-rise heat detector supplied with a mounting base, designed to trigger an alarm when ambient temperature exceeds 58°C or when temperature increases rapidly over a sustained period. Classified as A1/R under EN 54-5, the detector uses a digital processing algorithm to distinguish between genuine fire conditions and brief temperature spikes from sources like radiators or direct sunlight.

Designed for installation in environments where smoke detectors would false-alarm, the RHD2 suits kitchens, boiler rooms, garages, workshops, and storage areas with high dust or steam levels. The low-profile white housing mounts directly to standard UK fire alarm back boxes via the included base, which provides both mechanical fixing and electrical connection to the fire panel circuit. The 360° visible LED on the detector head flashes every 8 seconds to confirm sensor status during routine inspection.

The detector's dual-mode sensing combines fixed-temperature and rate-of-rise detection in a single unit. Fixed-temperature sensing triggers at 58°C regardless of how slowly that temperature is reached, while rate-of-rise sensing triggers on rapid temperature increases that might not yet have reached the fixed threshold but indicate developing fire conditions. This dual approach reduces the time to alarm activation in fast-developing fires while maintaining reliable detection in slower thermal events.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between rate-of-rise and fixed-temperature detection?

Fixed-temperature detection triggers when ambient temperature exceeds 58°C. Rate-of-rise detection triggers when temperature increases rapidly over a sustained period, even if the absolute temperature hasn't yet reached 58°C. The RHD2 combines both modes, so it activates on whichever condition is met first.

Where should heat detectors be used instead of smoke detectors?

Heat detectors suit kitchens, garages, boiler rooms, workshops, and other environments where smoke, steam, dust or cooking fumes would cause false alarms with optical or ionisation smoke detectors. They respond to heat rather than particulates in the air.

What does the flashing LED indicate?

The LED flashes every 8 seconds during normal operation to confirm the sensor is powered and functioning. This allows visual inspection of detector status without test equipment. In alarm condition, the LED behaviour changes as specified in the installation manual.

Is the base included?

Yes. The RHD2 is supplied with a mounting base that fixes to a standard UK fire alarm back box and provides the electrical connection to the fire panel circuit. The detector head twists onto the base after wiring is completed.

Shipping & Returns

Free worldwide delivery

Free worldwide delivery on all orders over £99. International orders for third-party brand products may be subject to an additional courier surcharge based on volumetric weight, particularly on larger lighting fixtures — if a surcharge applies, our team will email you with the amount before dispatch and you can proceed or cancel for a full refund. See full delivery terms.

Returns

30-day returns window from delivery. As all our products are electrical or lighting goods, returned items must be inspected and recertified by a qualified electrician before resale — the cost of this inspection (25–40% of the item value) is deducted from your refund. Customers pay return shipping. Made-to-order, special-order and clearance items cannot be returned. See full returns policy.
