Description

The MAGfire CSD2 is a multi-criteria fire detector combining an optical smoke sensor with a heat sensor in a single ceiling-mounted unit supplied with its mounting base. The detector uses a digital processing algorithm to analyse both smoke particles and rising temperature simultaneously, reducing false alarms from dust, steam or minor temperature changes while maintaining sensitivity to real fire conditions.

Designed for conventional fire alarm systems in commercial, institutional and residential settings, the CSD2 fits standard detector bases with a twist-lock mechanism and connects via two-wire conventional loop wiring. The dual-sensor approach makes it suitable for spaces where either smoke or heat might be the first indicator of fire — kitchens, plant rooms, storage areas and mixed-use zones where a single-criterion detector might miss early-stage detection or trigger false positives.

The white polycarbonate housing includes a 360° visible LED that flashes every 8 seconds to indicate sensor status and provides visual confirmation of power and operational state from any viewing angle. A rubber gasket ring around the smoke chamber aperture increases protection against dust and moisture ingress, contributing to the IP30 rating. Auto compensation adjusts the detector's sensitivity over time to account for gradual dust accumulation, extending service intervals between cleaning or replacement.

Frequently Asked

What type of fire alarm system does this work with?

The CSD2 is designed for conventional fire alarm systems using two-wire loop wiring. It is not compatible with addressable systems. Check your fire panel's specification or consult a qualified fire alarm installer to confirm compatibility.

What does the LED flashing mean?

The LED flashes every 8 seconds to indicate the detector is powered and operational. A continuous or rapid-flash pattern typically signals an alarm condition or fault — see the product manual for full LED behaviour descriptions.

What's the difference between combined and single-sensor detectors?

A combined detector analyses both smoke particles and rising temperature, reducing false alarms in environments where steam, dust or minor temperature fluctuations might trigger a smoke-only or heat-only detector. This makes it more reliable in kitchens, plant rooms and storage areas.

How is the detector installed?

The detector twists onto the supplied base, which is first fixed to the ceiling and wired into the conventional loop. Installation must be carried out by a qualified fire alarm technician in accordance with BS 5839-1 and local fire safety regulations.
