Description

The MAGfire 2 Zone Conventional Fire Alarm Kit is a complete fire detection and alarm system for small commercial, hospitality and residential premises requiring coverage across two separate zones. The kit centres on a MAG2P 2-zone conventional fire panel and includes six PSD-2 optical smoke detectors with ceiling bases, two SCP-2R resettable manual call points, two BA-2R Banshee sounders and a BAT7 12V 7Ah standby battery.

Designed for straightforward installation in buildings up to approximately 200-300m² split across two fire zones, the kit provides detection, manual alarm triggering and audible warning in one package. The MAG2P panel mounts on a wall in a secure location and monitors both zones independently, identifying which zone has triggered an alarm. The six optical smoke detectors detect smouldering fires and slow-burning materials more effectively than heat detectors, making them suitable for corridors, offices, storage areas and bedrooms. The two manual call points allow occupants to trigger the alarm manually if they discover a fire before the detectors activate.

The optical detectors use forward-scatter sensing technology to detect smoke particles entering the detection chamber, reducing false alarms from dust and steam compared to ionisation models. The resettable call points can be reset after testing or a false alarm using the supplied key, avoiding single-use replacement costs. The Banshee sounders produce a high-output alarm tone audible throughout typical small premises, and the 12V 7Ah battery provides standby power during mains failure. The system complies with The Construction Products Directive (CPD: 89/106/EEC from July 2013) and carries CE marking.

Frequently Asked

What size building does this kit cover?

The 2-zone configuration suits small commercial premises, guest houses, small care homes and residential conversions up to approximately 200-300m² total floor area, split across two fire zones. Exact coverage depends on the layout, ceiling height and the number of rooms — consult a fire safety professional for buildings with complex layouts or regulatory requirements.

Does the kit require professional installation?

Yes. Fire alarm systems must be installed and commissioned by a qualified fire alarm engineer to comply with UK Building Regulations and BS 5839 standards. The system requires mains electrical connection to the fire panel, zone wiring to all detectors and call points, and functional testing after installation.

What's the difference between conventional and addressable systems?

Conventional systems like this one monitor entire zones rather than individual devices, so the panel indicates which zone has triggered but not which specific detector. Addressable systems identify the exact device that triggered the alarm, but cost more and are typically specified for larger or more complex buildings.

How often do the smoke detectors need replacing?

Optical smoke detectors typically have a service life of 10 years from the date of manufacture, after which the sensing chamber and electronics degrade and the units should be replaced. The manual call points, sounders and panel have longer service lives but require annual testing and periodic maintenance under BS 5839.
