MagDuo 8 Zone Two-Wire Fire Alarm Panel Kit

The MagDuo 8 Zone Fire Alarm Panel Kit is a complete two-wire fire detection system built around the ESP MagDuo8 control panel, supporting up to 8 individual detection zones across a single twisted-pair cable run. The kit includes seven detectors (six with integral sounders, one with sounder and strobe), two resettable manual call points, and a head removal tool. The panel requires two 12V 3.2Ah SLA batteries (not included) for backup power during mains failure.

Designed for small to medium commercial buildings, care homes, hospitality premises and multi-occupancy residential buildings where Building Regulations require an L1, L2 or L3 fire alarm category, the two-wire topology reduces installation cost and cable complexity compared to conventional four-wire systems. Each detector is individually addressable on the panel, allowing the control unit to identify the exact zone in alarm. The panel measures 380mm wide × 350mm deep × 240mm high and is suitable for surface mounting in a protected location such as a plant room, comms cupboard or reception area.

Six of the included detectors are the MAGDUOSHDS model — selectable optical smoke or heat detectors with integral sounders and mounting bases. The seventh is the MAGDUOSHDSS variant, which adds a visual strobe to the sounder for compliance in areas where hearing-impaired occupants are present or where ambient noise levels require a visual alert. The two MAGDUOCP call points are resettable break-glass units that trigger a manual alarm when the frangible element is pressed. All detectors ship with bases included, and the removal tool allows heads to be detached from bases for maintenance or replacement without disturbing the wiring.

The MagDuo8 panel provides zone isolation, allowing individual zones to be disabled during maintenance without shutting down the entire system. The panel is CE-marked and conforms to EN54 standards for fire detection and alarm systems. Installation must be carried out by a competent person familiar with fire alarm wiring standards and local fire safety regulations.

What batteries does the panel require?

The MagDuo8 panel requires two 12V 3.2Ah sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries for backup power during mains failure. Batteries are not included in the kit and must be purchased separately. The panel monitors battery condition and will indicate a fault if battery voltage falls below operational threshold.

What's the difference between the MAGDUOSHDS and MAGDUOSHDSS detectors?

The MAGDUOSHDS has an integral sounder only. The MAGDUOSHDSS adds a visual strobe to the sounder, meeting the requirement for visual alarm indication in areas where hearing-impaired occupants are present or where ambient noise levels are high. Both detectors are selectable between optical smoke and heat modes.

Can additional detectors or call points be added?

Yes. The MagDuo8 panel supports up to 8 zones on the two-wire loop. Additional compatible detectors and call points can be added to the system up to the panel's maximum device count and current draw limits. Consult the panel datasheet for loop loading calculations.

What cable is required for two-wire installation?

Two-wire fire alarm systems typically use fire-rated twisted-pair cable rated to BS EN 50200 (PH30 or higher). The cable must maintain circuit integrity for the required duration during a fire.
