MagDuo 2 Zone Two-Wire Fire Alarm Panel Kit

The MagDuo 2 Zone Kit is a complete two-wire fire alarm system built around ESP's MAGDUO2 2-zone control panel, supplied with seven selectable optical smoke/heat detectors (six with integral sounders, one with sounder and strobe), two resettable manual call points, and a dedicated head removal tool. The panel operates on 12V DC and requires two 12V 3.2Ah SLA batteries (sold separately) for backup power during mains failure.

Designed for small commercial premises, offices, retail units and residential properties requiring BS 5839-6 Grade D or BS 5839-1 Grade A compliance, the two-wire topology simplifies installation by running both power and data over the same cable pair to each detector and call point. This reduces cable runs and labour compared to conventional four-wire systems. The seven included detectors provide coverage for up to 700m² of open-plan space or 14 rooms under typical BS 5839 spacing rules.

Each MAGDUOSHD detector can be field-configured to operate in optical smoke mode or heat mode depending on the room application, allowing the same detector type to serve kitchens (heat mode) and general areas (smoke mode). The integral sounders in all seven detectors provide distributed alarm output across the building without needing separate sounder circuits. The single MAGDUOSHDSS detector adds a strobe function for areas requiring visual alarm indication. The panel provides two independent zones, allowing different areas of the building to be monitored separately for fault-finding and staged evacuation.

The 380 x 350 x 240mm steel panel enclosure mounts on a wall and houses the control PCB, zone terminals, and battery compartment. The front panel displays zone status via LED indicators and provides test, silence and reset controls. The included head removal tool allows detectors to be removed from their bases for maintenance without triggering a fault condition on the panel.

What batteries does the panel require?

The MAGDUO2 panel requires two 12V 3.2Ah sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries for standby power. These are not included in the kit and must be purchased separately.

How many rooms can this kit cover?

Under typical BS 5839 spacing rules, the seven included detectors can cover up to 14 standard rooms or approximately 700m² of open-plan space, assuming ceiling heights below 7.5m and normal fire risk categories.

Can the detectors be switched between smoke and heat modes?

Yes. Each MAGDUOSHD and MAGDUOSHDSS detector has a field-selectable switch allowing it to operate as either an optical smoke detector or a heat detector. This allows the same detector model to be used in kitchens (heat mode) and general areas (smoke mode).

What's the difference between the MAGDUOSHDS and MAGDUOSHDSS detectors?

The MAGDUOSHDSS adds a visual strobe to the integral sounder, providing both audible and visual alarm indication. The kit includes one MAGDUOSHDSS and six standard MAGDUOSHDS units (sounder only).
