Description

The MagDuo is a 2-zone 2-wire fire alarm control panel from ESP, housed in a black powder-coated steel enclosure measuring 340 x 350 x 101mm. Each zone supports up to 32 fire detection devices (smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points) on a single two-wire loop, with the device limit determined by the combined Device Loading Units (DLU) of all connected devices. The panel features a 4-line x 20-character LCD display showing system status, fault conditions and event logs.

Designed for small-to-medium commercial and residential fire alarm installations where two detection zones provide adequate coverage, the MagDuo operates on 230V mains with battery backup via two 12V 2.3Ah batteries (BAT32, sold separately). An optional extended battery box allows fitment of two 12V 7.0Ah batteries for longer standby duration. The two-wire architecture reduces installation labour and cable costs compared to conventional four-wire systems, as power and signalling share the same cable pair.

The panel distinguishes between smoke detector, heat detector and manual call point activations, displaying the specific device type on the LCD and allowing targeted response. Active end-of-line monitoring detects wiring faults, device removal and tamper conditions in real time. The alarm confirmation feature requires two detectors in the same zone to activate within a set time window before triggering full alarm, reducing false alarms from transient smoke or airborne dust. Three test modes (walk test, system test, alarm test) allow installers and maintenance engineers to verify system operation without generating full alarm conditions.

Zones can be configured to day/night detection mode, adjusting sensitivity thresholds based on occupancy patterns. Delay programming allows entry/exit times and investigation periods to be set independently per zone. The event log stores up to 500 events with date and time stamps, providing an audit trail for inspections and incident investigation. The panel is certified to EN54-2 (control and indicating equipment) and EN54-4 (power supply equipment) standards.

Frequently Asked

How many devices can be connected per zone?

Each zone supports up to 32 devices, but the actual number depends on the combined Device Loading Unit (DLU) ratings of all connected detectors and call points. Smoke detectors typically carry a DLU of 1-2, heat detectors 1, and manual call points 1. Refer to the product manual for DLU calculation guidance.

What batteries are required?

The panel requires two 12V 2.3Ah batteries (ESP model BAT32, sold separately) for backup power during mains failure. An optional extended battery box allows fitment of two 12V 7.0Ah batteries for longer standby duration in installations where extended backup is needed.

Is the panel certified to UK fire alarm standards?

Yes. The MagDuo is certified to EN54-2 (control and indicating equipment) and EN54-4 (power supply equipment), the European standards adopted in the UK for fire detection and alarm systems.

What is the alarm confirmation feature?

Alarm confirmation requires two detectors in the same zone to activate within a configurable time window before the panel triggers a full alarm condition. This reduces false alarms caused by transient smoke, dust or single-detector faults while maintaining rapid response to genuine fire conditions.
