The Maccacari is an LED wall light formed as a slim oval band, black on the outside and gold on the inside, so the warm metallic inner face picks up the light while the outer face stays quiet against your paintwork. It is 27cm long and 7.5cm high, and it stands 13cm out from the wall. The body is aluminium and steel, with a transparent plastic shade, and the light source is an integrated LED that draws 10W and gives 1,300lm at 3000K, a warm white. Its IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms.

That makes it a natural choice for a living room, a hallway, a landing or a bedroom. Hung over a sofa, it brings warm light to a large plain wall and gives the room a focal point without taking any floor or table space. At 13cm deep it sits close to the wall, which suits a narrow hallway where a deeper fitting would be in the way. Fitted as a pair either side of a bed, it frames the headboard neatly. With 1,300lm from one fitting, it gives a good amount of background light rather than a faint accent.

Because the LED is integrated, there is no bulb to buy or replace. The light is not dimmable and has no switch of its own, so it simply comes on and goes off at your wall switch. It works on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains and carries an energy class of E. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download.
