This is a large smoked glass globe shade from our Lyria range, a full sphere 50cm across and 50cm high. It is the glass alone. The range's large E27 pendant suspension set is sold separately and the maker lists it as required, so the shade becomes a working light only once it hangs from that set with an E27 bulb in place, and the bulb is not included either. No IP rating is given for this shade, so we keep our suggestions to dry living spaces indoors.

At this size the globe wants a room with space around it: hung over a dining table, in a double-height hallway or stairwell, or in a living room where one large pendant does the work of several small ones. The smoked grey tint gives the glass real presence by day, reading as a solid, glossy form even with the lamp off. Once lit, smoked glass softens the light passing through it compared with clear glass, so the room gets a gentler glow and the shade itself becomes the focus.
