Description

This is the Lyria globe shade in smoked glass: a full sphere of grey-tinted glass, 40cm across and 40cm tall, with a single round opening. It is the shade on its own. To become a working light it needs the range's large E27 pendant suspension set, which is sold separately and which the maker lists as required, plus a bulb, which is not included either. If you already own that suspension set, this globe is made to go on it.

We stock it for two kinds of customer. The first already has a Lyria pendant whose glass has been chipped or broken and wants a replacement without changing the suspension set. The second is putting a pendant together from the start and has settled on the smoked finish. Smoked glass lets through less light than clear glass, so the globe reads as a quiet grey sphere when unlit and gives a gentler glow once lit. At 40cm across it is a generous shade with real presence, and because it is a true sphere it looks the same from every side, which suits a pendant visible from all sides.

The shade is made of smoked glass and weighs 1.45KG, which is worth knowing before you lift it into place: a globe of this size is easiest to handle with both hands. Glass does not yellow with age, and it wipes clean with a soft, dry cloth, so dust and fingerprints are easy to clear from the curve. Remember that the bulb comes separately, as does the suspension set, which is a mains product and is installed by a qualified electrician. Order the shade, the suspension set and a bulb together and you have everything the light needs.

Frequently Asked

Does this glass shade come with a lamp holder or cable?

No. This is the smoked glass globe only. It needs the range's large E27 pendant suspension set, which is sold separately and which the maker lists as required.

How big is the smoked glass globe?

It is 40cm across and 40cm tall, a full sphere, and it weighs 1.45KG, so it is a substantial shade best handled with both hands.

Is a bulb included with the shade?

No, a bulb is not included. You will need to buy one separately for the large E27 pendant suspension set that carries the shade.

Which suspension set does this shade fit?

It fits the range's large E27 pendant suspension set. That is the one product we list it as working with, and the set is sold separately.

What colour is the smoked glass?

It is a neutral smoky grey that stays see-through, so the glass is tinted rather than opaque and passes a softer light than clear glass does.
