Description

This is a replacement globe shade for our Lyria range: a round ball of iridescent glass, 30cm across and 30cm high, with an open neck at the top where it meets the suspension set. The glass is clear at heart, with a pearly sheen that drifts through pink, lilac and pale gold depending on where you stand. What you receive is the glass globe on its own, and it weighs 0.7KG. It is not a complete light. It needs the range's E27 pendant suspension set, which is sold separately and which the maker lists as required. It also needs a bulb, which is not included either.

Most customers come to it for one of two reasons. If a globe on an existing Lyria suspension set has been chipped or broken, this replaces it without touching the rest of the light. If you are putting together a new pendant, it is the piece that turns a bare suspension set into a finished light. At 30cm it has real presence, so it suits a place where a single pendant leads the room, such as over a dining table or in a stairwell. Hung in a row of two or three over a kitchen island, the globes read like a line of soap bubbles caught in mid air.

Glass does not yellow with age, so the globe keeps its clear, fresh look year after year. The globe has no electrical parts of its own. The lamp holder comes with the suspension set, and the bulb is bought separately. Order the set and a bulb together so everything is ready at once, and have the finished pendant put up by a qualified electrician, as with any mains light. It is still glass, so unpack it over a soft surface such as a bed or a rug.
