Description

A compact flush fitting with an opal shade drawn into a wine-glass curve, carried on an antique gold body that keeps everything close and tidy against the ceiling. The opal softens the light rather than throwing a hard pool, so what you get is a gentle wash at head height. Across, it comes in at 15cm, with very little drop below the ceiling line. A single E27 lamp does the work, up to 20W, and it will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a suitable dimmer switch.

This is the sort of light we suggest where a pendant would be in the way: a hallway, a landing, the turn at the top of the stairs, a small bedroom or a box room with a low ceiling. It belongs in dry rooms indoors, so leave bathrooms and covered porches to fittings rated for water and steam. The warm metal tone sits well in homes where brass or gold already shows up on handles, taps or mirror frames, and the small shade keeps it quiet in a narrow space where a wider fitting would crowd the eye.

The body is finished in antique gold, with the shade left opal so the lamp inside does not glare down at you. For upkeep, switch off at the wall and let the fitting go cold, then take dust off with a dry microfibre cloth; a barely damp cloth lifts marks from the metal, dried off straight away.
