Clear glass, formed into a round globe with an open mouth at the base, hung from a slim polished chrome suspension. At 12cm across it reads as a small bright point rather than a shade, and the drop is adjustable, so it can sit tucked up close to the ceiling or fall to 1.7m over a table. It takes an E27 lamp, and because the glass is clear the shape of that lamp is on show, so pick one you enjoy looking at.

Small pendants like this earn their keep in numbers, and we would run a line of them along a kitchen island or a breakfast bar, spaced evenly so the light lands where you work. On its own it suits a hallway, a landing, a cloakroom, or a spot beside a bed where a table lamp would take up room you do not have. The long adjustable drop also makes it useful in taller spaces, including above a stairwell. With a suitable lamp and a compatible dimmer, both bought separately, the output can be taken down low for the evening.

The metalwork is polished to a mirror brightness and the glass is left clear, a pairing that sits happily with chrome taps, glazed tiles and dark timber. Clear glass shows every mark, so keep a dry microfibre cloth to hand for the chrome and give the globe an occasional wipe with a barely damp cloth, dried straight away so no water spots are left behind. How far does the pendant hang?

The drop runs from 270mm at its shortest to 1770mm fully extended, so you can set it high in a hallway or take it well down over an island or dining table.

Which lamp should I choose?

It takes one E27 lamp up to 20W. As the shade is clear, pick a lamp you are happy to look at: a decorative filament LED or a coated globe both work well.

Can I dim it?

Yes, with a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the pendant.

How big is the shade?

The globe measures 120mm in diameter, which keeps two or three in a row from looking heavy above a worktop.

How do I keep the chrome looking good?

With the power off and the lamp cool, dust with a soft dry cloth. Marks and fingerprints come away with a slightly damp cloth, then buff dry straight away to avoid water spotting.
