Lori Open Mouth Chrome Globe Flush Light 15cm - Polished Chrome

The glow here comes from a single round globe shade in chrome, held under a polished chrome ceiling plate that keeps the whole fitting tight against the ceiling. At 15cm across it is a small fitting, more a neat point of light than a centrepiece, and the open mouth of the globe sends light downwards while the mirrored surface picks up whatever sits around it. An E27 lamp goes inside, and with a dimmable lamp and a dimmer the light can be turned down. It carries a one year warranty.

Low ceilings are where it earns its place: hallways, landings, cloakrooms, box rooms and the turn of a stairwell, anywhere a pendant would hang down into head height. It is one we reach for in flats, loft conversions and cottages, and it repeats well in a row down a long corridor without crowding the ceiling. The small diameter also makes it useful over a wardrobe run or inside a deep cupboard where you want light without bulk. Chrome sits happily with white paint, grey tiling and brushed metal handles, so it slips into a modern scheme without asking for attention.

Both parts wear a chrome finish, the plate polished and the globe shade the same bright mirrored tone, so the fitting reads as one piece rather than a shade added to a base. Polished chrome shows fingerprints, so handle it by the edges and give it an occasional wipe with a dry lint-free cloth; skip abrasive creams and household sprays, which dull the shine. Isolate the supply and let the lamp go cold before you touch it. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from steam and splashes. What lamp does it take, and how powerful can it be?

It takes one E27 lamp rated up to 20W. An LED lamp is the sensible choice, and the shape you pick will show through the open mouth of the globe, so a round or globe LED looks tidiest.

How much space does it need on the ceiling?

It measures 150mm in diameter and stands 90mm deep, so it needs only a small clear area and drops very little below the ceiling line.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor a dimmer comes with the fitting.

Is it suitable for a bathroom or a shower room?

No. It is intended for dry interiors only, so a hallway, bedroom or landing rather than anywhere it would meet steam or spray.

How do I keep the chrome looking bright?

Wipe with a dry, soft lint-free cloth and buff lightly in one direction. Avoid metal polishes, scouring pads and spray cleaners, which can leave the surface hazy or scratched.
