Description

Lori is a shallow flush fitting with a polished chrome ceiling plate and a smoke-tinted shade shaped like an upturned wine glass, drawn in at the neck and flared at the mouth. At 15cm across it sits tight to the ceiling and reads more like a small piece of jewellery than a light on show. The tint mutes whatever lamp sits behind it, while the chrome catches the daylight and the lamplight around it. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W.

We reach for this one where a pendant would hang too low for comfort: a hallway you walk through with your hands full, a landing, a small bedroom, a study under a sloping ceiling. The output is closer to an ambient glow than a working light, so in a kitchen or over a desk we would treat it as company for something brighter rather than the only source. Fit a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer and it will drop back for the evening. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a bathroom zone or a covered porch asks for a sealed fitting instead.

The polish runs across the plate and the neck, so the metalwork reads as one piece from below, and the smoke shade tempers the glare of a bare lamp. Chrome shows fingerprints more readily than most finishes, so we keep a dry cloth to hand and wipe the plate whenever we dust; let the shade go cold before you touch it, and clean it dry rather than damp. It carries a one year warranty. The Lori fitting runs across several shade shapes, and if the wine outline appeals but the tint does not, there is an amber version in the same polished chrome. Lamps are not included.
