Lori Round Open Mouth Smoke Globe Flush Light 15cm - Antique Gold

A little round flush fitting, 15cm across, with an antique gold plate at the ceiling and a smoke-tinted globe shade sitting just beneath it. The mouth of the globe is open, so you get a direct pool of light downwards along with the softer, darker glow that comes through the tinted shade. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and it will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer.

Small enough to suit a hallway, a landing, a boot room or a bedroom with a low ceiling, where anything hanging would be caught by a head or a wardrobe door. We would reach for it in a cloakroom or above a stairwell, and it works well in a run along a narrow corridor if you want light spread evenly rather than pooled tightly. The tinted shade keeps the lamp from glaring, which makes it kinder in a room you pass through late at night.

The gold has an antique sheen rather than a bright polish, so it sits comfortably with brass door furniture and warmer paint colours. Dust the plate with a dry duster and wipe the shade with a lightly damp cloth once the lamp has gone cold, and keep anything abrasive away from the finish. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; it is not for a shower area or anywhere exposed to weather. It carries a one year warranty. How far does it drop below the ceiling?

Very little. The fitting stands 90mm deep overall, which keeps it clear of doors, wardrobes and anyone tall in a low room.

What lamp should I use?

An E27 lamp rated at 20W or less. An LED is the sensible choice here, and because the globe is tinted and open at the mouth, the look of the lamp itself does show, so pick one you are happy to see.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and a matching dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with it.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so it belongs in dry rooms such as hallways, landings and bedrooms.

How much light will one give?

In a small space, plenty. Over a longer hallway we would space several along the run rather than rely on a single fitting, since the 15cm globe throws light close in rather than far.
