Description

A round opal globe sits tight against a satin nickel plate, open at the mouth so the light falls downwards as well as glowing through the shade. At 15cm across, it is a small fitting by design, reading as a neat disc on the ceiling rather than something that pulls the eye. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and it will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a suitable dimmer.

Low ceilings are where it earns its place: a hallway, a landing, the top of a narrow stairwell, a box room where a hanging shade would be in the way. It is one we reach for when a pendant would sit too low over a doorway or a bed. The opal shade keeps the lamp softened, so it is comfortable in a bedroom or a small study where you look up at the ceiling more often than you think. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a shower room or a covered porch asks for something sealed.

The metalwork carries a satin nickel finish, quiet rather than bright, and it sits happily alongside brushed switch plates and chrome ironmongery. Shade and plate both stay clean with an occasional wipe: a soft cloth over the globe once the lamp has cooled, and a barely damp cloth on the nickel rather than any cream or spray polish. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same open mouth globe in polished chrome and in antique gold, with green, smoke and iridescent shades among them, so a set of these can be run through several rooms without repeating the same finish.
