Description

A ring of antique gold holds five smoke glass globes, each shade open at the mouth so light falls straight down as well as glowing through the tinted glass. The frame measures 45cm across, which gives the globes room to sit apart rather than crowd each other. Smoke glass reads a soft grey brown when the lamps are off and warms considerably once they are lit. Each takes an E27 lamp, and the drop can be set short for a low ceiling or run long over a stairwell.

It suits a dining table best, where the round arrangement answers a round or square table and the tinted glass keeps glare comfortable at eye level. It also works over a kitchen island or in a wide hallway. It is one we reach for where a lone pendant would look mean above a broad table. We would choose clear filament LED lamps here, since the shades are open below and the lamp is part of the look. Dimming is possible with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer, neither supplied.

Construction pairs the tinted glass globes with an antique gold frame, finished with a softly aged sheen rather than a bright plate. Dust the glass with a dry lint free cloth and buff the metalwork gently, keeping sprays and creams away from the gold. Lamps of up to 20W are the limit per socket, and it is wired for an earthed supply in dry indoor rooms. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Lori range runs to flush fittings in the same antique gold with smoke globes, as well as polished chrome versions and other shade shapes including wine and trapezium forms. Lamps are not included.

The drop is adjustable from 270mm at its shortest to 2270mm at its longest, so it can sit close under a standard ceiling or hang deep into a stairwell.

What lamps does it need?

Five E27 lamps, each up to 20W. LED lamps are the sensible choice and the shape you pick will show through the open glass. Lamps are not supplied.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and pair them with a compatible dimmer. No dimmer is included.

How wide is the fitting?

The round frame is 450mm in diameter, which places it in our medium size band.

How should the smoke glass be cleaned?

A dry lint free cloth is all it needs. Avoid glass sprays and abrasive creams, which can dull both the tint and the antique gold.
