Description

A slim antique gold bar holds four smoke glass globes in a straight line, each shade open at the mouth so light spills downward as well as glowing through the tinted glass. The gold has an aged, softly warm tone rather than a bright plate, and it sits well against the grey-brown of the smoked shades. The bar runs 1.2m end to end, and the suspension is adjustable, so it can hang close to the ceiling or fall low over a table. Each holder takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W.

We reach for a linear pendant like this where one centre light leaves the ends of a long table dim: over a dining table, along a kitchen island, or above a run of worktop in a galley kitchen. Set higher, it also suits a long hallway or a wide landing. With suitable lamps and a dimmer it can be dimmed, and that is what we would do above the table, where the light needs to soften through the evening. It is wired for dry indoor rooms, so keep it to the hall, kitchen and living side of the house.

The antique gold finish carries a gently worn warmth that keeps it from looking brand new, and the smoke shades hold their colour whether lit or off. Let the lamps go cold, then lift dust from the glass with a dry microfibre cloth; a barely damp cloth and a quick dry-off deal with kitchen film. It carries a one year warranty.
